The Department of Immigration removed 143 illegal immigrants from Zambia and deported a Tanzanian national during a mass operation on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The group of 143 individuals consisted of 133 Burundians, 7 Rwandans, and 3 Tanzanians. While some had been convicted of immigration-related offenses and were removed after paying court fines, others were removed without prosecution.
During the same operation, authorities deported 40-year-old Tanzanian national Misheck Francis Bundala after he completed a prison sentence. Bundala had been convicted by the Lusaka Magistrate Court on May 27, 2024, on two counts of trafficking in psychotropic substances.
He received concurrent sentences of two years and one year and six months with hard labour, and upon his release from custody, he was handed over to the Department of Immigration for deportation as a prohibited immigrant.
