Five inmates escaped from lawful custody while on a working party at Chinsali General Hospital in Chinsali District, with three later recaptured and two still on the run.
Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Lubinda Mayamba says the five were among 25 inmates taken for work at the hospital yesterday, September 23rd, 2026.
Mr Mayamba says three of the escapees were later recaptured at different places in the evening, while two remain on the run.
He says the inmates are facing various charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, breaking into a building and committing a felony therein, malicious damage to property and stock theft.
Mr Mayamba says a manhunt has been launched to capture the two escapees who are still on the run.
