The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in North-Western Province has arrested a 41 year-old Congolese national for trafficking in heroin contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Nzani Mpemba Clarisse, aged 41 of Lubumbashi village in Congo, has been arrested for trafficking in 0.2 grams of heroin concealed in an old microwave which came from South Africa as a parcel on a named bus. The microwave also had nine (09) Semi-Automatic Air Pistols 4,5mm Calibre concealed in the sides.

Meanwhile, the Commission in Mazabuka conducted raids in areas that have been notorious for drug abuse and trafficking where fifteen (15) people were arrested for various quantities of drugs which included heroin and cannabis. The operations were conducted in Zambia Compound, Nakamba and Overspill.

And in a similar incidence, the Commission in Lusaka conducted operations in Chilenje, Mtendere East and Ng’ombe which have equally become notorious for drug abuse and trafficking in which 20 people were arrested for trafficking in various quantities of heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

Those arrested included Patrick Chikwanda, a male aged 23 of House No. 26355 Apex Chalala, Shekiana Suculdz of Woodlands and Madalisto Tembo aged 20 of Chalala Compound for trafficking in a total of 62 sachets of heroin.

In the Copperbelt Province, the Commission has jointly arrested Felix Mumba, a taxi driver aged 30 of House No. 2021 Old Kawama, Kitwe and John Chama a Businessman of Mokambo border post for trafficking in 180kg of compressed cannabis concealed in 2 by 90kg bags. The Commission has since seized the motor vehicle that was being used to transport the drugs.

All the suspects are currently in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
