A LION, which is on the loose in Chief Sekute’s chiefdom in Kazungula district, has killed two calves and one pig.

Headman Mundanda told Sunday Mail in an interview that the lone lion attacked the animals yesterday.

The headman said some villagers discovered the carcasses of the animals with overwhelming evidence pointing to a lion as the culprit.

“A man from Kainyandela village by the name of Junior Nyemba discovered the footprints of a lion this morning [Saturday] around 05:00 hours as he went to draw water at a nearby borehole,” headman Mundanda said.

Headman Mundanda said he spotted a hyena in the area, which signifies the presence of a lion because the animals usually move within minutes of each other.

He said the lion might have been looking for water at the borehole, where its footprints were spotted, because most dams in the area had dried up.

Headman Mundanda said villagers are now moving cautiously in fear of the lion. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
