I wish to appeal to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development to ensure the portion between Serenje and Mpika of the Great North road as well as the stretch from Kanchibiya bridge to Chambeshi bridge on Kasama road are worked on as a matter of urgency. These roads have become death traps and if nothing is done by rainy season, the country might register more undesired road traffic accidents and loss of precious lives.

I also wish to call on the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Road Development Agency (RDA) to attend to the state of the Luchembe to Kopa Road up to Nchubula Road. This is the road leading all the way to the $30million ZAMPALM plantation which is producing 256 metric tonnes of crude palm oil annually and owned by Government through the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) with 90 percent while Zambeef Products Plc owns 10 percent.

I am aware that RDA has done assessments on Zampalm to Nchubula road and the rice farmers in that area are waiting for works on the ground. This area is a sleeping giant in commercial rice and sugar production.

I wish to repeat calls on RDA to complete works on Chambeshi to Chinkobo Road including graveling and putting in place the planned culverts up to Chinkobo. This road is important in supporting the fishing and rice industry in Mbati and Chambeshi areas.

It is our hope that these roads including Chalabesa to Kabinga and Chalabesa to Kopa will be worked on to motorable standards as all-weather roads.

These roads, among others, have also been submitted for considering under the 10 year road sector plan for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Signed:

Hon Sunday Chanda
