Lukusashi Bridge in Serenje District, Central Province, has collapsed after a truck laden with bags for the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) attempted to pass through it.
At least three wards namely Lukusashi, Sancha and Chisomo have since been cut off.
Muchinga Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda has learnt the development with sadness.
Mr. Banda urged the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to respond expeditiously to avert more challenges in accessing either sides.
He said it is saddening that the bridge gave up at a time when FRA was preparing to distribute farming inputs under the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP).
The Parliamentarian stated that no vehicle can now pass at Lukusashi, 43 kilometres away from the Great North Road.
