Every year, we hear speeches about independence and development, but the material condition of the majority of our people across the country tells of a story of a very uninspired population and a disillusioned nation.
Today, Zambia is one of the most unequal societies in the world. This is reflected, in part, in the high gini coefficient of 0.69, meaning the total national income is shared among 31% of the population, while the majority 69% have nothing.
The majority of Zambians are still excluded in the engine room of the economy. The commanding heights of the Zambian economy is foreign owned and controlled.
Zambian child, it is not yet Uhuru. The evil triplets of poverty, inequality and joblessness is far worse today than it was in 1964.
We must continue to fight for a just, humane and fairer society.
This generation must, as its primary mission, continue to demand and fight for economic freedom in our life time.
The struggle must go on!
