A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl of Siabulu village under Chief Sipatunyana in Kalomo, Southern Province, has died after an abandoned brick house collapsed on her on Thursday.

Police sources in Kalomo confirmed in an interview saying the deceased, Matimba Muchindu, died around 09:00 hours while playing in the dilapidated house when the walls collapsed and bricks fell on her. She died on the spot.

Her grandfather, Tenson Siaguto, explained to ZANIS that some children in the village had gone to play when the incident happened.

A team comprising police officers and District Commissioner Joshua Sikaduli were trying to get to the scene by press time but had difficulties because of the heavy rains which led to the inly bridge connecting to the area being flooded.

The bereaved family has since been advised to bury the girl as police have ruled out any foul play.

Some parts of Kalomo have experienced heavy downpours during this week.Kalomo, however, is not the only place to be affected by the heavy rains.

In Shibuyunji district, Central Province, more than 40 houses in three villages had their roofs blown off on Tuesday following a hailstorm while Nampundwe area was left in darkness as some Zesco power-lines fell in the process. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
