Three truck drivers have been convicted and fined by the Nakonde Magistrate Court for attempting to smuggle 510 logs of Mukula.

Daudi Pascal Kasele aged 43 years, Raphael Jonathan Ngala aged 35 years and Bruno George Nzasule aged 43 years, all Tanzanian truck drivers were on Friday 18th November, 2022 convicted by the Nakonde Magistrate Court for Three (3) counts of the offence of attempted smuggling contrary to the Customs and Excise Act and 3 counts of the offence of unlawful possession of Biological Resources contrary to the Environmental Management Act.

The convicts were fined K50,000.00 each in default to serve nine (9) months Simple Imprisonment and the vessels used in the commission of the tax crimes have been surrendered to the Zambia Revenue Authority.

The facts of the case were that Daudi Pascal Kasele, Raphael Jonathan Ngala and Bruno George Nzasule on unknown date but between 3rd December 2021 and 11th December 2021 at Nakonde in Muchinga Province of the Republic of Zambia, attempted to smuggle out of Zambia 510 Mukula logs and would have defrauded the Government of the Republic of Zambia of revenue amounting K 285,158.

Taxpayers are encouraged to pay their fair share of taxes as ZRA remains relentless and vigilant in stepping up the fight against smuggling of goods at all points of entry. This is contained in a report published by Byta FM.
