A combined team of Police Officers and personnel from the Ministry of Education in Mazabuka swung into action Tuesday morning to grab furniture from 10 Private Schools donated during the Patriotic Front’s rule.
The furniture comprising of chairs and tables was given to the private schools as a way to help them cope with challenges during the height of the COVID-19 period.
A Byta FM News Reporter who covered the proceedings says officers from the Ministry of Education blocked the Media from filming the exercise, noting that they were under instructions from the district office.
Meanwhile, owner of one of the affected schools who asked to remain unknown for fear of harassment, expressed shock with the development, saying the move has negatively affected his institution.
He described the grabbing of the furniture as unprofessional, noting that no withdraw document has been produced by the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) office.
In confirming the development, Mazabuka District Private School Association Member, Innocent Kasonde, expressed sadness with the move.
He wondered why the District Education Board Secretary has only targeted private schools when government establishments also benefited from the programme.
When approached for a comment at her office, Mazabuka District Education Board Secretary, Christettah Mulinga Mwale, declined to say anything.
