One of the wagons from a Zambia Railways Authority goods train derailed and detached itself from the train in Lusaka’s Mazyopa Compound.
The incident occurred on December 14, 2022 around 22:30 hours in Mazyopa Compound when the train was going to Kabwe from Lusaka.
The train operator, identified as Frobisher Ngoma aged 57 of Kafue Township reported that he noticed that the last wagon which was loaded with sugar was detached from the Train when he arrived at Ngwerere Train Station and immediately alerted the Police.
Police officers followed up the report and discovered the derailed wagon in Mazyopa area where residents were found looting the sugar.
Officers dispersed members of the public who were found ransacking the sugar and secured the scene of the incident.
Investigations to establish the cause of the accident have been instituted.
