Second year medical students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East Road campus have protested over lack of adequate lecture theatres among other pressing issues.
Other reasons that have made the students protest include over enrolment, lack of lecturers and lack of laboratories.
The same students at the biggest higher learning institution also sit on the floor during lectures.
Addressing them as they went to notify him about their protest this morning, UNZASU president Gabriel Banda said amongst the major causes of the challenges students are facing is over enrolment.
Mr Banda said the problem was caused by the previous leadership.
“There was over enrolment of over 10,000. This wasn’t my fault as UNZASU as I do not admit students. This was management fault. And that management that we are talking about was fired because of those same reasons.”
“So you must understand that you are not dealing with the people that caused that problem. You are dealing with new people that are here to solve some of those problems. You have not met those new people.”
He encouraged the affected students to seek audience later in the day with the new management and voice out on the issues affecting them.
