(ZNBC) Six people have died while 10 others survived with injuries in a road traffic accident along the Great North Road.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale says the accident happened early this morning around 04:30 hours at Kashikishi area about 10 kilometers South of Kapiri-Mposhi town.

He says initial investigations by police indicate that the accident happened when the driver of the Higer bus belonging to ABYKEN Bus Services of Chingola carrying 49 passengers from Kasumbalesa to Lusaka hit into a Scania Tipper Truck which was parked on the left side of the road.

Mr. Mwale says due to the impact, two females and four males, were pronounced dead upon arrival at Kapiri-Mposhi District Hospital leaving 10 with injuries.

He adds that the bodies of the deceased are all in Kapiri-Mposhi District Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and post-mortem while the injured are admitted to Kabwe General and Kapiri Mposhi District hospitals.

The deceased have been identified as Rebecca Bwalya 34, Marley Essanga24 and Lazarus Kanema while the other three are yet to be identified.

Mr. Mwale says the driver of the Higer bus identified as Chris Hamuka of Lusaka’s Matero Township is detained in Police custody charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
