A 43 year old man of Chama District has allegedly taken his own life by taking a poisonous substance used to preserve maize.
Muchinga Province Commanding Officer Mubanga Kaunda explained that Moffat Kaluba of Makeni B compound took his life after he defecated in his trousers during a drinking spree causing people to laugh at him.
Mr Kaunda said the Mr Kaluba was shamed of what had happened and it was at that point that he rushed home to end his life.
“We received a report from John Kaluba 36 of Government rest house compound that Mr Kaluba died after taking poisonous tablets used to preserve maize. Brief facts are that Mr Kaluba was drinking an unknown type of beer and became so drunk that he had to defecate in his trousers causing people to laugh at him. In order to save himself from the self caused embarrassment, he rushed home and took the poisonous tablets,”he said.
He said the incident happened on Saturday around 16:00 hours.
Mr Kaunda said when close neighbours decided to rush Mr Kaunda to Chama District Hospital after they saw him battling for his life.
He said the deceased was lying in Chama district mortuary awaiting postmortem. This is contained in a report published by Mwebantu.
