ZAMBIA Sugar Plc Head-Corporate Affairs, Eugene Chungu, says the institution will embark on refurbishing Ndeke Clinic, now known as Nakambala Urban Health Centre, so as to enhance service delivery.
Chungu tells Zambia Reports that the intervention follows an infrastructure inspection on the Clinic by the Mazabuka District Health Office which revealed that the facility has several defects.
He states that the Health facility which is situated in Ndeke Township with a populace of over 33,000 people is accessed by residents of Nakambala Township which has the largest population in Mazabuka.
Chungu reveals that works on the Clinic which currently carters for approximately 200 patients daily and has a fully-fledged Antiretroviral Therapy-ART department that attends to over 30 patients every day, with another 3000 on treatment, will commence in the next three weeks.
He says Zambia Sugar will rehabilitate all the departments of the Clinic which include the Labour Ward, Outpatient department, Maternal Child Health, Environmental Health and Voluntary Counseling and Testing.
Other areas to be worked on are Security posts, Waste management, Registry and the Screening room.
Meanwhile, Mazabuka District Health Director, Dr. Phallon Mwaba has thanked Zambia Sugar Plc for accepting the request to work with government in having the Clinic renovated to enhance service delivery.
And one of the people who frequent the Clinic, Diana Limanda, says once refurbished, the Health facility will provide patient confidentiality, noting that currently, there are no enough rooms for proper privacy.
Another Clinic goer, Patrick Chinyama, has applauded the Sugar Company for embracing its Corporate Social Responsibility to improve lives of the people in the community it serves, adding that he is looking forward to have the Clinic renovated.
