By Brightwell ChabushaThe New Dawn Administration has disclosed that it will be ready to sign Treaties and Protocols after consulting widely with the Zambian people.Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu said the New Dawn Administration would only sign and ratify Treaties that had a positive bearing on the Zambian people.Mr Mwiimbu said as the situation stands, Zambia is not ready to sign the Protocol on the Free Movement of People in Africa as internal consultations are still on-going.The Minister was speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia before he transited to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the 4th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Migration, Refugees and Internally Displaced people. He added that the International Community had taken interest in the hospitality accorded to refugees in Zambia.Mr Mwiimbu however said there was need for Africa to come up with a common position on how to handle the problem of migration. The Minister said migration has now taken a new dimension because migrants were not only leaving their host countries because of war but were leaving their countries to seek economic benefits. He said it was important that the problem of migration was addressed at the continental level because it had the capacity to undermine security, especially in countries like Zambia that were being used as transit points.Zambia currently holds the position of Chair for the African Union-AU- Bureau of the Specialized Technical Committee on Migration, Refugees and Internally Displaced people. This is contained in a press statement issued today by First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, Inutu Mupango Mwanza.
