My opposition to the monthly fuel price reviews and fluctuations is very clear for two reasons, it pushes the cost of living beyond the majority poor Zambian’s and secondly it creates instability in the market hence affecting most local businesses.

Nonetheless, the reduction of fuel prices for the month of August by K3.56 and K3.14 respectively is very much WELCOME. We will applaud any ATTEMPT by the Government aimed at reducing the cost of living for our people no matter how small that step maybe. What’s good for the majority of our people is also good for us.

We also urge Government to compel public private transporters to reduce the fares accordingly as well as the cost of goods and services to suit the fuel price reduction. Once again we call on Government to come up with a package of local intervention measures to protect households and local businesses from external international shocks.
