Some taxi drivers in Choma District have declined to reduce fares on local routes following a reduction in fuel pump prices by the Energy regulation board- ERB.

One of the taxi drivers, Brian Mwadu, said that the reduction in pump prices is too minimal which will attract losses if fares are to be reduced.

Mwadu who charges K10 for local routes like Macha road and Kamunza says fares can only be reduced when fuel prices are below K20 per liter.

Another taxi driver, Trodwell Sayembe says a reduction in fares is impossible because prices of car spare parts have not been reduced.

Meanwhile, a commuter Kanenga Siyazilo, says he has never benefited from the reduction in fares from the time fuel pump prices were increased.
