A CRACKDOWN against online fraudsters who had been duping unsuspecting people of their hard-earned money by intercepting their mobile money accounts has led to the arrest of five youths in Southern Province.

According to Zambia Daily Mail, the suspects were allegedly hacking their victims’ online mobile banking platforms and manipulating critical database.

Following reported cases of cybercrimes, Zambia Police Service and Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) launched investigations which have resulted in the arrest of five suspects, who were found with 28 SIM cards, four cell phones, two desktop computers, a laptop, eight automated teller machines (ATM) Visa cards and two national registration cards.

Of concern is that those arrested work for an MTN agent.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga named the suspects as Miyoba Chisanga, 25, of Manungu township, and Dawson Sibande, 27, of Manungu Orphanage, both of Monze.
