Zambia and Botswana are set to boost regional trade and connectivity with the construction of a 430-kilometer railway line from Livingstone to Sesheke’s Katima Mulilo border post in Western Province.
The railway line, which will connect the Botswana railway network at Mosetse with the Zambia railway network at Livingstone, will offer a direct route for goods and people between the two countries.
The new railway line will also provide an alternative route for trade between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to the port of Durban in South Africa, bypassing the existing route through Zimbabwe.
The completion of the railway is expected to promote swift transportation of goods and people in the Southern African region.
And in a related development, the Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA) is set to be fully operationalized following a Ministerial Committee Meeting chaired by the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hon Charles Milupi, and his counterpart from Botswana, Hon. Eric Molale.
The meeting, held in Ndola on the Copperbelt, marked tremendous progress in the operationalization of the KBA.
The Kazungula Bridge, which spans the Zambezi River, will play a critical role in facilitating trade and connectivity between Zambia and Botswana, and the wider Southern African region.
With the completion of the railway and road, the region is poised for enhanced economic growth and development.
