TASILA LUNGU, the Chawama Member of Parliament and former President Edgar Lungu’s daughter, has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and charged with money laundering and possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Tasila only returned home yesterday from the United States where she was on martenity leave, and indicated that she would avail herself before the DEC that had issued a red alert against her. She was arrested and released on bond after questioning.
According to the DEC, the property which is subject of the charges is a farm in Sinda, valued at approximately K8.8 million.
In September 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court ordered the forfeiture of the farm to the state, citing a significant discrepancy between Tasila’s known income and the property’s value.
The court found that between 2015 and 2021, Tasila’s documented income totaled K154,200, which they said was insufficient to justify the acquisition and development of the farm.
On appeal, the Court of Appeal, in January 2025, granted a stay of execution on the forfeiture order, allowing Tasila to retain the farm pending the outcome of her appeal.
