MINISTRY of Local Government and Rural Development has handed over 29 motorbikes to traditional leaders in Central Province at a cost of over K900,000.
The motorbikes are meant to be used for monitoring of developmental projects and sensitise people about the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking during the handover in Kabwe earlier today, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Nicholas Phiri said the gestures underscores the need for traditional leaders to be partners in development.
“These motor bikes are specifically meant to address the challenges of administration in the chiefdoms in terms of how you disseminate information, how you monitor government projects and also to sensitise our citizens to participate in government programmes, including CDF.
“Government is going to do everything possible to ensure that the process of providing leadership at chiefdom level is eased,” he said.
