Shamrock Group of Companies has officially handed over K2 million to Mines United Football Club to sponsor the team for the entire season, with a commitment to increase the amount if the club qualifies for the CAF Champions League.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Shamrock Group Director Guston Kasempa said the investment reflects the company’s dedication to the Kabwe community.

“We have been in Kabwe for the past two years, and together with our subsidiaries, we looked at what we could do for the people here. As an investor, you don’t just come to take from the town you become part of it.

When we analysed the livelihoods of the people of Kabwe, we realised the best way to start was by sponsoring a soccer team. Mines United is a small team that comes from the slums of Makurulu township and has fought its way up to the Premier League.

We are pleased to be part of this partnership and look forward to supporting not just the football team but also the wider Kabwe community,” Kasempa said.

The K2 million sponsorship is for the whole season. Kasempa explained that the amount could go up should Mines United deliver good results, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.

Mines United Chairperson Matthew Mohan expressed gratitude to Shamrock for the sponsorship calling it a “timely boost” that will inspire the players and enhance the teams’ preparations for the season.

Club General Secretary Lukuma Chizengu also voiced praise for the partnership, stating it was a demonstration that corporate involvement can benefit both football and the community.
