A rare officer, who has served in the military of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is receiving accolades as he clocks 102 years old.
He is still an active military officer. Luhembwe Alfani met with the country’s Vice Prime Minister of National Defense, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, on Thursday.”
78 years of loyal service to the Congolese nation in the ranks of the FARDC, 1st Sergeant-Major Luhembwe Alfani, aged 102, is still active under the flag,” the Vice Prime Minister of National Defense, Muadiamvita, said in a post on social media.
Alfani is a non-commissioned officer at the Kisangani garrison, Muadiamvita said, promising him “a decoration in the coming days, for his loyal services to the nation.”
It’s not immediately clear why he hasn’t retired yet.
