BANKERS STUNNED, ARROWS SOAR, MIGHTY LEAVE IT LATE & POWER MEANS BUSINES

If the Absa Cup was a movie, this weekend would have been the part where you cancel all your plans, grab snacks, and shout at your screen like the referee can actually hear you.

The Absa Cup quarter-finals didn’t just meet expectations, they looked expectations in the eye and said, “Hold my drink.”

Saturday kicked off with Chirundu FC vs Zanaco FC, and what a plot twist that was. The bankers thought they had safely deposited a win. Unfortunately, football is not a fixed account. Somewhere between confidence and the final whistle, that victory disappeared like airtime on a bad network day. Chirundu walked away smiling with a 1-0 win, probably still asking, “So… that really just happened?”

Meanwhile, Red Arrows FC reminded everyone why they’re basically frequent flyers in knockout competitions.

Facing Play It Forward FC, Arrows didn’t just win, they filed a full flight plan and landed a 4–1 result. Smooth takeoff, turbulence for the opponent, and a very comfortable landing into the semi-finals.

MUZA FC and Mufulira Wanderers gave us a match so defensive, even chances needed permission to enter the box.

The Elegant Dynamites of Mazabuka and the Mighty Wanderers cancelled each other out for 90 minutes 0–0. But as the saying goes, “Maite awina muchungulo” (Mighty wins in the evening). And true to tradition, Wanderers clocked in late… but still got the job done on penalties.

Then came the business class fixture: Power Dynamos (aka Aba Yellow) vs Nchanga Rangers. Power Dynamos are currently running the league like they own it and clearly, they didn’t leave that energy at home. A clean 2–0 win, no noise, no drama—just vibes and efficiency. Like paying bills on time.

Now the semi-finals are locked in:

Chirundu FC vs Red ArrowsMufulira

Wanderers vs Power Dynamos

And honestly, questions are everywhere. Will Chirundu pull off another “we didn’t see that coming” moment against the ever-consistent Arrows? Or will Arrows continue flying first class straight to the final?

Will Mighty Wanderers once again wait for “the evening” to strike, or will Power Dynamos turn it into a full-on yellow celebration?

One thing is certain: if this weekend taught us anything, it’s that in the Absa Cup—logic is optional, drama is guaranteed.

So… who’s your money on? 👀.
