Mozambique’s First Lady Gueta Chapo has provided various items to atleast 700 Malawian nationals fleeing xenophobia attacks in South Africa, currently at Maputo bus terminal awaiting transport to Malawi.
Madam Chapo distributed blankets, food and water last night, and also contacted transport companies to take them to the city of Tete enroute to Mwanza.
She stated that, as a mother, she views every citizen, regardless of their origin as her own child.
According to information from the Mozambique Consulate in Malawi, the Malawi citizens expressed gratitude for the gesture.
