A family in Lusaka’s Mandevu area has been left in mourning following the death of a 23-year-old man whose body was discovered early Wednesday morning in what police are treating as a suspected suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Zacharia Halinga of Mandevu.

According to the Zambia Police Service, the incident was reported to Mandevu Police Post at around 07:00 hours on July 1 by a 28-year-old resident of Mandevu Compound.

Police say the man, who works as a bus conductor along the Great North Road, noticed people rushing towards a makeshift structure near Mandevu Junction at about 05:30 hours. Curious to find out what had happened, he went to the scene and discovered the deceased before immediately notifying the police.

Officers later visited the scene and began investigations. The body was subsequently taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Police said documents found on the deceased helped establish his identity, which was later confirmed by family members.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are still underway.
