The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to worsen, with the country’s public health authorities confirming that the death toll has risen to 492, while the number of confirmed cases has reached 1,528.
According to the latest situation report, the virus continues to spread in several affected areas despite ongoing efforts by health authorities and international partners to contain the outbreak.
Health officials say 239 patients have recovered from the disease, while 628 confirmed cases remain in isolation or are receiving treatment. Another 185 suspected cases are currently under investigation.
Authorities say surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing and community awareness campaigns remain at the centre of the country’s response as efforts continue to prevent further transmission.
The outbreak has prompted continued collaboration between the DRC Government, local health authorities and international health partners, who are working to strengthen disease surveillance, treatment capacity and vaccination efforts in affected communities.
Public health authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspected cases without delay and cooperate with health workers as the country continues its efforts to bring the outbreak under control.
