The Road Transport and Safety Agency-RTSA has announced a reduction in bus fares following the recent downward adjustment in fuel pump prices by the Energy Regulation Board-ERB and subsequent approval by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
RTSA Head of Public Relations CHILUFYA MWELWA says the revised bus fares took effect on 6th July, 2026, and apply to various public service vehicle routes across the country.
The Agency says average fares for inter-city routes have been reduced by 6.2 percent, while inter-mine routes have been reduced by K3.00.
RTSA has also announced a K1.00 reduction for local routes in Lusaka, while peri-urban routes in Lusaka and other towns have been reduced by K3.00. Local routes on the Copperbelt and in other towns have also been reduced by K1.00.
The Agency says the fare adjustments follow its submission of the proposed revised fares to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in consultation with the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia-BOTAZ, taking into account the reduction in fuel pump prices announced by the ERB for the month of July.
RTSA has urged all Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators to immediately implement the approved fares and strictly comply with the revised fare structure.
In the statement, CHILUFYA MWELWA said members of the public seeking further information can contact the RTSA National Call Centre on 0955 983983 or WhatsApp 0965 429499, while emergencies should be reported through the toll-free number 983.
