The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two individuals and seized 175 kilograms of dry loose cannabis in Lumezi District, Eastern Province.
The suspects, identified as 39-year-old Malawian national Moffat Mlotha and 53-year-old Zambian national Rebecca Nsomba, were on the commission’s watch list for alleged involvement in cross-border drug trafficking.
According to the DEC, the illicit consignment was smuggled into Zambia from Malawi, concealed in sack bags and a laptop bag. The seized drugs have been secured, and both suspects are currently detained in lawful custody awaiting court appearances.
The operation forms part of the commission’s ongoing “Operation Kufeza” initiative.
DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba commended members of the public for their vigilance and encouraged citizens, particularly those living near border regions, to continue reporting suspicious activities to help authorities combat crime.
