The Zambia We Want Party has added its voice to the growing concerns over the electricity crisis in the country, describing the situation as “unacceptable” and “devastating”.
Party spokesperson Muhabi Lungu has expressed shock at the government’s handling of the crisis, which has seen load shedding lasting up to 48 hours in some areas.
“The resultant load shedding, or planned power-cuts, lasting 23 to over 48 hours a day is not only unacceptable but devastating,” Lungu said.
The party has demanded a comprehensive strategic plan from the government and ZESCO to resolve the problem, including immediate, medium, and long-term solutions.
Lungu also called for transparency and public participation in finding solutions to the crisis, warning that failure to do so would lead to a disaster of immense proportion for the economy.
The party has also criticized the government for blaming the drought for the crisis, saying that it is not taking responsibility for the welfare of its people.
