Despite his repeated claims that he “deserves the prize,” US President Donald Trump failed to wine the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The award instead went to Maria Corina Machado, Venezuela’s opposition leader and one of the most vocal critics of President Nicolas Maduro’s authoritarian rule. Machado, 58, has spent years living in hiding, facing harassment, threats, and a court ban that has stopped her from running in the 2024 presidential election. Trump, who has said he “ended seven wars” since first taking office in 2017, had told reporters earlier this week that the Nobel Peace Prize committee perhaps will find a reason not to give it to him.
