June 11,2026-The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public that significant progress has been made in investigations into the cases of Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Arson reported at Lukulu Police Station on June 06,2026.
On June 09, 2026, police recovered forty-three (43) head of cattle valued at K370,500.00 which had been stolen during the attacks that resulted in the deaths of Seven persons, injuries to four others and the burning of Six houses in Kamboyi Village, Lukulu District.
Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of two suspects namely Numbo Mate Mubita aged 41 and Chiteta Kayombo aged 25 on June10, 2026 in the Kashasha area of Lukulu District. Acting on information provided during investigations, police officers proceeded with the suspects to the Pezo bush area to recover a firearm that was used in the commission of the offences.
Whilst approaching the indicated location, the suspects attempted to escape and one of them retrieved an AK-47 rifle concealed in the bush and opened fire on police officers. The officers responded to the attack in the lawful execution of their duties. During the exchange of fire, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to Lukulu District Hospital where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police successfully recovered the AK-47 rifle, which had a defaced serial number, together with three rounds of ammunition. The firearm has since been secured as an exhibit and forms part of the ongoing investigations.
The Zambia Police Service in Western Province wishes to reaffirm its commitment to protecting life and property and ensuring that persons involved in serious criminal activities are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing, and further details will be communicated in due course.
