Works on the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway have reached 78 percent completion, with the Road Development Agency (RDA) expressing satisfaction at the pace of progress on one of Zambia’s flagship infrastructure projects.

Speaking during a media tour of the project today, RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Anthony Mulowa said significant progress has been made since construction works commenced in May 2024.

He said the Agency remains encouraged by the steady advancement of the project, which is expected to transform transportation along the country’s busiest economic corridor.

Mr. Mulowa said the main carriageway has now attained 78 percent completion and noted that the benefits of the project are already being felt by motorists and other road users as several completed sections have since been opened to traffic.

He explained that travel time between Lusaka and Kabwe has significantly reduced compared to the period when the road was in a poor state.

Mr. Mulowa said it now takes an average of one hour and thirty minutes to travel between the two towns, a development that has improved convenience for motorists and commuters.

Mr. Mulowa further stated that once completed, the upgraded highway is expected to improve road safety, reduce vehicle operating costs and enhance the efficient movement of goods and passengers along the route.

He added that the project will play a critical role in supporting economic growth and facilitating trade.

The Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway is one of the country’s largest road infrastructure projects and forms part of the strategic route linking Lusaka to the Copperbelt Province. The highway also serves as a major trade corridor connecting Zambia to neighbouring countries within the Southern African region.

The project involves upgrading the existing road into a modern dual carriageway aimed at easing congestion, reducing travel time and improving road safety. Upon completion, the road is expected to boost economic activity by facilitating faster transportation of goods, services and people between Lusaka, Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi and Ndola.

Meanwhile, works on the 24-kilometre Kabwe Bypass Road have reached 50 percent completion, marking another milestone in the government’s efforts to improve the country’s road infrastructure network.
