Government has released K1.4 billion for the May-June 2026 Social Cash Transfer-SCT payment cycle, with over 1.5 million poor and vulnerable households set to benefit across the country.

In a press statement, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Angela Kawandami says the latest disbursement brings the total amount released under the programme since January 2026 to K4.3 billion, out of the K8.5 billion allocated in the 2026 National Budget and Supplementary Budget.

Ms. Kawandami said payments commenced on June 29, 2026, and are being made to eligible beneficiaries nationwide.

She added that Government has continued to enhance the programme through digital payments, with 92 percent of beneficiary households now receiving their funds electronically.

Ms. Kawandami encouraged beneficiaries to check their mobile money or bank accounts with their respective payment service providers for the deposited funds.

She said the digitisation of Social Cash Transfer payments has improved efficiency, transparency and accountability, while ensuring faster and more secure delivery of funds to beneficiaries.

The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening social protection programmes to ensure vulnerable citizens continue receiving the support they need.

She says the Social Cash Transfer Programme remains one of Government’s flagship social protection interventions, helping vulnerable households meet their basic needs, improve food security and build sustainable livelihoods.

Ms. Kawandami further said the programme continues to stimulate local economies by injecting more than K1.4 billion into communities every two months.

This is according to a statement issued today by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Principal Public Relations Officer Glenda Nachinga
