Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe has dismissed social media rumors claiming that Zambians in the diaspora staged protests at the United Nations Headquarters, assuring that the country’s delegation was warmly received.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81), Minister Haimbe stated that there were no protests against Zambia.
Representing President Hakainde Hichilema at the opening session, the minister noted that many Zambians residing in the United States expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the August 2026 General Elections and conveyed happiness over President Hichilema’s re-election.
Haimbe urged citizens to uphold peace, unity, and national cohesion, emphasizing that the country must move forward together regardless of individual political choices.
During his engagements in New York, Haimbe signed a joint communiqué with Andorra’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Imma Tor Faus, establishing formal diplomatic relations to foster cooperation in tourism, digital governance, and climate action.
He also participated in high-level discussions regarding the implementation of the Pact for the Future alongside Namibia and other African leaders. Meanwhile, Health Minister Prof. Roma Chilengi attended the launch of the Accra Reset High-Level Panel report on global health architecture reform.
Minister Haimbe is scheduled to deliver Zambia’s National Statement on behalf of President Hichilema on Monday, September 28, 2026.
