A YEAR after her baby died and was buried, a Chipata woman took another couple’s child claiming she thought it was her own who had come back from the dead.
The woman was so convinced that it was indeed her child that she did not even think twice about taking her away. She even took the child to the pastor for prayers.
Fortunately, the pastor was able to convince her that resurrection does not occur that easily and the best option was for her to take the child to the police.
This resulted in her arrest.
The 20-year-old woman, of Mchini township, admitted before court that she stole the three-year[1]old child from a couple because she mistook her for her own who died a year ago.
Chipepeso Banda told the court that she thought it was her baby who had died and resurrected after a year.
Banda stole a child from Chipata’s Katopola township where she had gone to visit her brother, who is a tenant to the child’s parents. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
