Tragic Accident Claims Two Lives in Chisamba

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Chisamba today, two lives were tragically lost in a fatal road traffic accident. The collision, involving three vehicles, occurred at Kabwese Farm, just 4 kilometers south of Liteta Police Station along the Great North Road.

According to reports from the Liteta Police Station, the accident involved Mr. Jonathan Mwanza, a 47-year-old man from Lunte Council. He was driving an Isuzu D-Max with three passengers, heading from Lusaka to Kabwe. Another vehicle involved was a Fuso Fighter, driven by Mr. Chilombo Sydney, a 33-year-old resident of Luanshya. The Fuso Fighter was facing north due to a mechanical fault and carried six passengers. Mr. John Chitoti Lumbuala, aged 51, from Mulungushi Extension, Kabwe, was driving a Toyota Fun Cargo from Kabwe to Lusaka, accompanied by one passenger.

The tragic incident unfolded when the Isuzu driver, allegedly exceeding the speed limit, collided with the stationary Fuso Fighter parked on the left lane. As a result of the impact, the Isuzu veered to the right and crashed head-on into the approaching Toyota Fun Cargo.

Regrettably, two passengers in the Isuzu lost their lives on the spot, while the driver and a baby sustained minor injuries. One passenger in the Fuso Fighter suffered a painful right leg, and the driver of the Toyota Fun Cargo was left with a swollen face and a nosebleed.

The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at Liteta Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

The Isuzu vehicle bore extensive damage, the Fuso Fighter sustained damage to its right side, and the Toyota Fun Cargo had its right side visibly compressed, with the front windscreen shattered.

Authorities are conducting ongoing investigations into the incident and will provide further details as they become available.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic accident. May they find strength and support during this immensely difficult time.
