A 33-Year old man of Musinga village in Chief Chifunda, Chama district of Eastern province, has drowned after the wooden made canoe he was in capsized, on the Luangwa River.
The victim who has been identified as Philip Mwale, went for fishing yesterday with his friend, who has not yet been identified.
Chama South Member of Parliament Mr. Davidson Mung’andu confirmed the sad development to Kwenje Radio today.
Mr. Mung’andu says the victim is believed to have been swept away by water whilst his friend managed to swim.
He says the body has not been retrieved.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mung’andu says he is devastated with the drowning of Mr. Mwale.
He says all this is caused because of the hunger situation, which has badly hit some parts of his Constituency.
The Mp says in trying to find food, people in the area resort to anything, as long as it can make them have food.
Mr. Mung’andu says government already authorized some bags of maize to be distributed to the affected areas in the district.
He says though the distribution exercise is slow.
Mr. Mung’andu has called on those who are carrying out the distribution exercise, to quickly come in to the aid of people of Mapamba ward and other affected areas.
He mentioned other affected areas as Pondo, Lunzi, Kauzela and Chipala.
