An unidentified Zimbabwean woman suspected to have a mental disability yesterday vandalised windows, medical tools and furniture at Chilanga Urban Clinic.

The incident happened in the morning when the woman, believed to be between 30 and 40 years, went to the health facility to ask for food from a security officer.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga told the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) that the woman was incensed after being advised to buy food at a nearby shop.

Mr Hamoonga said it was at that point that she became uncompromising and went to one of the patients’ bed and covered herself with beddings.

“The officer who was on duty later on called for the help of the security officer and later on, when she saw the security officer walking in, she become violent,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said nothing was stolen, adding that the health facility has been left with damaged property whose value is yet to be ascertained.

Patients at the facility were saddened by the incident as it will negatively affect their access to quality healthcare.
