UTH Adult Hospital has welcomed members of the incoming Chinese Medical Team, who paid a courtesy call on the Office of the Senior Medical Superintendent, Dr. Charles Mbewe, who was represented by the Head of Clinical Care, Dr. Humphrey Kunda.
The delegation, which included both outgoing and incoming members of the Chinese Medical Team, was led by Team Leader Mr. Zhang Yingjian, marking the official introduction of newly deployed medical experts under the long-standing health cooperation programme between Zambia and the People’s Republic of China.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Kunda expressed gratitude to the Government of China for its continued support in strengthening Zambia’s health sector through the deployment of specialist medical personnel.
He said the Chinese Medical Team has over the years contributed significantly to the improvement of specialized healthcare services at UTH Adult Hospital through clinical care delivery, knowledge exchange, mentorship of local health workers, and introduction of advanced medical techniques.
Dr. Kunda further noted that the arrival of four new Chinese doctors would enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality specialized healthcare services to patients from across the country.
He described the partnership as a strong model of international cooperation that continues to benefit both patients and medical personnel.
Team Leader Mr. Zhang Yingjian thanked hospital management for the warm reception and reaffirmed the team’s commitment to working closely with Zambian counterparts in improving patient care.
He said the incoming doctors were eager to share expertise, exchange experience, and contribute to the development of specialized medical services.
The meeting also allowed the outgoing team to reflect on their service in Zambia, expressing appreciation for the support and cooperation received during their tenure.
UTH Adult Hospital has since confirmed the deployment of four new Chinese doctors who will work alongside local specialists in delivering healthcare services while supporting skills transfer and capacity building.
The Chinese Medical Team has remained a key partner in Zambia’s health sector for decades, contributing to medical training, specialized care, and the strengthening of clinical services nationwide.
