The High Court in Lilongwe has today ruled in favor of dismissing a case involving MCP Director of Elections, Dr. Elias Chakwera, who sued the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and Dowa Ngala Member of Parliament Rodwell Khombeni over alleged electoral irregularities in the September 16, 2025 elections.
Dr. Chakwera’s petition had sought to nullify Khombeni’s candidature due to numerous irregularities. Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda ruled that the application lacked serious questions to be tried in court, as the allegations were not substantiated.
According to the defendant’s lawyer, Geofrey Taumbe, unless the matter is pursued, the court will proceed to assess the costs payable to the respondent.
