NATIONAL women team skipper Barbra Banda is closing in on joining Spanish giants Real Madrid. Coach Bruce Mwape confirmed yesterday that Banda has been excused from camp to travel to Harare, Zimbabwe, to obtain a Spanish visa. Mwape said Banda, who is currently on the books of Chinese side Shanghai Shengli, is part of the final squad for the tournament in Morocco.

“Banda has been training with us. She has actually been excused because she has to go to Zimbabwe to get a visa. In Spain, she is likely to sign for Real Madrid as they have expressed interest in her,” he said.

According To Zambia Daily Mail, early this year, Banda confirmed receiving numerous offers. She hit international headlines for scoring two hat-tricks during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Banda scored the first hat-trick in Zambia’s 10-3 loss to the Netherlands in the opening Group F match, with the second one coming in a 4-all draw with China. Zambia, who were representing Africa in Tokyo, lost 1-0 to Brazil to exit the Olympic Games.
