The Government has onboarded eight Local Authorities onto the Government Service Bus-GSB, marking a major milestone in the ongoing e-Council Digitisation Project aimed at improving service delivery and eliminating manual processes.
The Local Authorities that have been integrated into the digital platform include Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe, Solwezi, Chingola, Kalulushi, Kalumbila and Chilanga, expanding access to online council services through the ZamPortal in collaboration with the Smart Zambia Institute.
The new system allows citizens and businesses to conveniently apply for and make electronic payments for key services such as health permits, fire safety certificates, property rates, business levies, market and bus station fees, as well as billboard and banner permits.
Speaking during a press briefing, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration Dr. GABRIEL POLLEN said the digital migration is part of Government’s broader agenda to enhance efficiency, transparency and convenience in public service delivery.
Dr. Pollen said the initiative represents a significant step in modernising municipal operations and reducing inefficiencies associated with manual and cash-based transactions, while also improving revenue collection in Local Authorities.
He further encouraged citizens and business operators in the affected councils to take full advantage of the 24-hour digital platform, noting that Government is already observing steady improvements in revenue performance in the participating Local Authorities.
Dr. Pollen also announced that following the successful onboarding of the eight councils, Government, in partnership with Smart Zambia, will officially launch the e-Council services by the end of the month.
He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to rolling out the system to all 116 Local Authorities across the country, in a bid to build a more responsive, transparent and service-oriented local government system.
