Manyinga District Commissioner Brenda Mukwakwa has implored parents and school authorities in Manyinga District to assist pupils in making suitable and ideal career choices early.

Ms Mukwakwa said the government has created an enabling environment for all children to excel through the free education policy that would give an opportunity for every child to excel in any career of their choice.

She added that when children identify their careers early, they become passionate and committed when they are employed as they competently contribute to national development.

“Guide children on careers that suit them, to enable them to become competent professionals in future, “she said.

The District Commissioner said this when she officiated at the District Careers Exhibition Event in Manyinga District, held under the theme, “Today’s Career Bearer, Tomorrow’s Technocrats”.

Speaking at the same event, District Education Board Secretary Patrick Poho in a speech read on his behalf by District Education Standards Officer Edith Muke said Career Exhibitions are important events as they showcase various professionals together.

“Take advantage of this event and interact with practicing professionals to enable you to make informed career choices,” Mr Poho said.

District Counseling and Guidance Coordinator Marjory Mutelu implored learners to regularly consult their counseling and guidance teachers from their respective schools on career choices based on their capabilities.

She further cautioned parents and guardians against dictating or imposing careers on their children by allowing them to make career choices on their own.

One of the exhibitors, Emmanuel Nkweto who is acting District Agricultural Coordinator, as well as a trained Agronomist implored pupils to desist from bad vices, such as premarital sex, beer drinking, theft and bad company by staying focused on school as the only way they are going to achieve their dream careers.

Mr Nkweto further encouraged pupils to do well in Agriculture Science, Mathematics, English, Physical and Social Science subjects for them to get admission into any university or good college.

Meanwhile, Kaumba Chinyama who spoke on behalf of the pupils thanked the government through the Ministry of Education for coming up with career exhibitions as they will enable pupils to interact and get firsthand information and inspiration from practicing Professionals.
